Is it ever possible to choose just one favourite album?

Daily writing prompt
What’s your all-time favorite album?

Personally, I would say a truly fantastic album should play as a holistic work of art, rather than a collection of individual songs that don’t have any intrinsic relevance to each other. The beauty of a great album is that you can revisit it having not listened for a while & it can mean something completely different to you every time you hear it. The songs & lyrics are still the exact same, but your perceptions & paradigms in which you view life & the world are constantly evolving & adapting.

It isn’t hyperbole to say I couldn’t pick one favourite, I would love to hear some of your favourite albums? I am always on the lookout for new music recommendations.

Some of my favourite albums, in no particular order are Biffy Clyro -Puzzle, Ludovico Einaudi – In a time lapse, Linkin Park – Hybrid Theory, Oasis – Definitely Maybe, Bruce Springsteen – Born to run, R.E.M – Automatic for the people & David Bowie – Legacy (which I know is a bit of a cheat due to it being a compilation, but it’s a banging album & I have it on Vinyl 😍). Thanks for reading & have a wonderful day!

    1. That is a great shout, love Meatloaf! If you get the chance, I would recommend the DVD he has called Storytellers, sings some great tracks on there but talks through some of the songs too. I must admit though, growing up I was poor, so I may or may not have picked it up on a 5 finger discount from Somerfield supermarket 🤭

  1. Good question Tyler. I don’t think you can have just one favourite. I’m 65yrs old and still regularly playing albums I bought with milk round as a teenager in the early 70’s. Albums like Aladdin Sane by Bowie and Billion Dollar Babies by Alice Cooper. At the same time I’ve recently really got into Don’t Believe the Truth by Oasis. I’m not a fan of the Gallaghers but its been a long time since I’ve played a new album as much as I’ve been playing this. The songs actually get in your head! Stuff I play most though would be: Seconds Out and Selling England by the Pound – Genesis. Led Zep 4, Wish You Were Here and Pulse – Pink Floyd any mostly, Misplaced Childhood and Clutching at Straws – Marillion

    1. Thanks for sharing your thoughts, it’s hard to believe you are 65!

That is a great Oasis album, a few awesome tracks on there. I haven’t listened to Genesis before, obviously I have heard of them as they are huge, I will give those albums a listen over the weekend. I haven’t heard of Marillion, so will give them a listen to as well, much appreciated on!

Although digital has killed off a lot of industries & a little bit of the magic of music, it is amazing in the sense that I can just go onto YouTube & listen to a whole back catalogue of an artist at the click of a button. Back in the day, if the shop didn’t have the vinyl or CD, you weren’t getting to listen to it.

Hope you & Linda have a lovely weekend 😊

  2. Great question!

My initial answer would be no.

Just like what’s your favorite movie?

Kind of changes with time and the mood your in.

However, one enduring album that remains near and dear to my heart is The Joshua Tree by U2.

Hands down my favorite U2 album.I highly recommend sitting down and listening to the album in its entirety.

It ttakesone through a musical journey that transcends any single song.

It also has special nostalgic value for me, personally. Summer of 1987 was when I got my driver’s license and my first car( 67′ Ford Mustang).

The Joshua Tree cassette became my soundtrack for the newfound freedom I experienced that summer.

I played it until the tape deck ate it.

About a 100 plays at least. Always from start to finish while driving in the San Diego sun🌞

    1. Thanks for checking our my post & sharing your thoughts 😊

That is a great story, it’s crazy how a certain album can hold that level of nostalgia, sounds like that was an incredible summer driving round! I will definitely give it a listen, I do like U2, I have their greatest hits album which has a few of the songs Joshua Tree but haven’t listened to it all the way through.

A Ford Mustang is quite the car to be starting out with to!

      1. Thanks Tyler .

Before I was born in 71′, my parents were fans of the Steve McQueen movie Bullit.

There is a famous car chase scene between 60’s American Muscle cars, Ford Mustang and Dodge Charger.

Fortunately for me, by the 80’s they had graduated to the more fuel efficient Honda Wagons.

But, they didn’t sell the Mustang or the 68′ Dodge Charger.

When I turned 16 and got my driver’s license, I had a choice.

All my guy friends said, ‘Dude! Take the Charger!’.

However , all my female friends would run my arm and say, ‘Lance, I really like that Mustang’.

        Must I explain more? 😉
