Watch the Sun set over the Sahara Desert: The Cairo Tower🏜️

Construction on the Cairo Tower was completed in 1961 & it stands at 180+ meters tall, which makes it taller than the Great Pyramid of Giza. This is a must visit site, offering stunning views of Cairo, Giza & beyond! It is situated in the beautiful Zamalek district, which is a little Island between Cairo & Giza. You would have to go to Luxor (article here) to rival the exquisite picturesque views of the River Nile from the Tower. If you are scared of lifts & heights, I would recommend giving yourself a pep talk before arriving, I really didn’t want to enter the lift 😂

When I visited there was around a 30-45 minute wait to go inside, which was also during off season for tourists, so definitely factor this into your plan.

Another key call out is that if you are travelling solo the guards do not let you go onto the outdoor rooftop terrace. You are only allowed to go into the indoor Restaurant, you still get a wonderful view, however it is real shame you can’t get the full experience. When you buy your ticket, this is not clear at all.

I have seen websites like Trip Advisor etc selling tickets to the Cairo Tower for very high US dollar prices, do not buy these tickets, they are a complete rip off! Just buy your ticket at local prices when you get there, entry fee is around 200/300 Egyptian Pounds, significantly cheaper.

Opening times
I have seen lots of different sites with various opening times, but when I was there it was the case that in Summer it was 09:00-01:00 & in winter 08:00-0:00.
Entry fee This was around 200/300EGP, do not pay the $50 I am seeing on Trip Advisor etc, that is a complete rip off & you do not need a tour guide for this site.
Time to complete visit If you are stopping by the Restaurant for food or drinks, you could be here for a couple of hours (Including the wait time). If you are taking Binoculars or fancy photography equipment you could be there longer.
Tours I wouldn’t recommend a tour here, it is just a tower, I am not sure what value a tour guide could add to your trip. If there are online sites offering pick up, drop off & tickets, be careful that you aren’t getting over charged. Uber in Cairo is ridiculously cheap, so for Cairo Tower, much better to sort your own travel & tickets.
