The Valley of the Queens | Luxor’s hidden gem 👑

The Valley of the Queens is well worth a trip when visiting Luxor. Whilst The Valley of Kings can overshadow this site, it should definitely be on your list. They are both within a relatively close proximity of each other. The Valley of the Queens has some stunning tombs of Queens, Princesses & Princes.

As it is much less publicised as a tourist spot, it is much quieter than the Valley of the Kings & makes for a much more pleasant leisurely stroll. The tomb of Nefertari was the one I really wanted to see, but was temporarily closed unfortunately. However, the tombs that were open were awesome. The art work inside the tombs is incredibly well preserved & due to much lower footfall, you can really spend time absorbing everything, which definitely isn’t the case with the Valley of the Kings.

Some of the tombs have low ceilings so if you are 6ft & above you might have to crouch down in parts. If you bring a tour guide, they aren’t allowed to go inside the tombs with you, so it may not be worth the money of bringing a tour guide.

Your entry ticket gets you into 3 tombs, there around around 90 documented tombs here but not all of them are available to the public. I would check ahead to get a feel for which tombs you would like to enter.

Opening times During my visit in September 2024 was 06:00-17:00.
Entry fee I had this as part of a tour so I am not 100% sure. Your ticket gets you into 3 tombs, but you can pay extra to go inside others, so the total cost will depend on how many you wish to visit.
Time to complete visit Around 1 hour, as I only saw the 3 tombs included in the entry.
Getting thereYou would need some transport to get here, it isn’t really within walking distance of anything. Your best option would be to take a taxi here.
ToursI had a tour guide, who was very knowledgeable on the Queens etc, however they have to wait outside the tomb on you. So they talk you through the art before going in, but when you’re inside they can’t talk you through specifics.
