Setting the scene
The Temple of Ramessess is pretty cool & worth a stop over on the West Bank of Luxor. The Complex isn’t as big as some of the other Temple Complexes but it is much quieter, meaning you can have a leisurely stroll. Perhaps most famous for a statue that was almost 60 feet tall when it stood, although unfortunately only fragments remain.
There is still a lot of cool stuff to see here, from ancient pillars to statues to historic arches used for storing Grain & all sorts of items. I have read on a couple of pages that these are the first recorded (currently discovered) uses of arches as a means of storage. I haven’t validated that however, so take it with a pinch of salt. As Abraham Lincoln once said “Don’t believe everything you read on the internet”.

top tips!
As this site is a lot quieter than others, the staff to tourist ratio is pretty high & they do tend to follow you around. I wish I had taken some small bills though as there were a lot of places off bounds that I would have loved to go in. On hindsight, I should have just tipped the EGP200 bills I had.
There are a lot of areas here where you can be far off the usual path & some very quiet areas. If you are travelling solo I would just say to be careful & make sure you remember your way back to a main path etc.
Important Information
| Opening times | During summer it was 06:00-17:00 & in winter it closes earlier. |
| Entry fee | Around EGP250 I believe, although I had prebooked my ticket through the private taxi I took. |
| Time to complete visit | 1-2 hours, it is an awesome Temple, but it isn’t massive.. |
| Getting there | I would advise taking a taxi here, or if you’re on a private tour they should sort out your transport. |
| Tours | It was hard for me to gage, I didn’t take a tour & thought it was fine. However, it isn’t that well sign posted & I think I missed some cool areas out. When I looked back on Google there were photos inside the Temple etc that I missed. So if you don’t take a tour, you definitely should get a map or prepare in advance. |
