Setting the scene
The Greco Roman Museum has thousands of items, ranging from Ancient coins, to beautiful mosaics to sculptures & statues. It was first built in the 19th Century however, has had various relocations & renovations. Most recently it underwent a major renovation (almost 20 years!) & re-opened in 2023.
It is by far the most beautiful Museum building I visited in Egypt & there is so much to see & learn about there. If you are tight on time, I strongly recommend that you prioritise this Museum over the Alexandria one, they are not even remotely comparable.

top tips!
When you go in, to your left there is a little cloakroom. They will expect a tip but it is quite a big Museum with a lot of walking, so best leave any bags etc. Other than this, the staff here are very professional & the museum is well run, I wasn’t asked for tips by anyone else.
There is lots of places to take a seat throughout, but not many places to grab a water etc. Whilst it is very well air conditioned, I would recommend stocking up on the water before going round. If there is a sign that says do not touch or take a photo of something, don’t be a tool & do it, respect the hosts 😊
Important Information
| Opening times | 09:00-17:00 but I think this varies during Ramadan so double check before going |
| Entry fee | 300EGP (which was around £5 UK at the time) |
| Time to complete visit | It was around 2 hours for me |
| Getting there | You can take a taxi or walk from the train station, it isn’t far. Or better yet, combine this with a trip to the Roman Amphitheatre (they are fairly close to each other) |
| Tours | All of the exhibits are well signposted, with lots of information & the layout is pretty good so you won’t get lost. However, a tour guide can bring that little bit of magic to the visit |
