A foodie’s guide | Cairo’s real treasure hunt: Finding the best places to eat! 🍛🍲

There are so many amazing places to eat in Cairo & all sorts of foods to try. All of the places recommended here I visited & loved, I am not on commission or anything like that. If you are lucky enough to visit Cairo, be sure to check out these places.

Koshary is the national dish of Egypt & it is bloody incredible! This restaurant is awesome too, the staff were lovely, it felt very authentic & the food was amazing. It is not a tourist trap either, they charge very cheap local prices.

Top tip; when they offer you the spicy salad, they do not tell you that the spicy salad is from the fires of Mordor, tread lightly! There are also a lot of fake rip offs for this restaurant so be sure to only visit the correct one; Choppin Ln Champollion, Cairo, Cairo Governorate 11511

I am not sure if this place has a name in English, I really couldn’t find one but will share address. It is a beautiful spot in the Korba district, serving the best food & have very good local prices. If you are feeling adventurous, get the Freek stuffed Pigeon!

Top tip; this place is on the first floor & you have to go through a stairway to get there so easily missed. The entrance is nearby BTC electronics which is easy enough to spot. Address; ١٦ Baghdad, الكوربة, Heliopolis, Cairo Governorate 11757, Egypt

Studio Misr, located Al-Azhar Park was wonderful to eat at. You get the most stunning view of Citadel Saladin, which is one of the highlights of the Cairo skyline. The food was ace, although it is a little more pricey than some places.

Top tip; Try the Alexandrian beef liver! Don’t feed the stray cat, I got in trouble for this & told it would come back with it’s friends. Sure enough 10 minutes later the cat was back with a whole squad 😂, the restaurant feeds them at the end of the day, so they don’t go hungry.

In Egypt they eat just about anything, from Brains, to tongues & lungs, everything is on the menu! If you aren’t feeling that, there is awesome Shawarma on most blocks, you can pick up some incredible Falafel & there are many places to sample unique desserts. Some things I would definitely suggest trying are Green Grape Leaves, Mombar, Kebab Halla, Pigeon (it isn’t as gross as you would think!), Hawashi & Ta’ameya. There are little carts where you can buy roasted sweet potato or corn on the cob at road side but I didn’t try these, if you do & get sick, feel free to abuse me in the comments section 😂
