Giants of the Nile | The Collossi of Memnon ๐Ÿ—ฟ

The Collossi of Memnon statues are truly incredible works of art. They were originally constructed as Guardians for the Mortuary Temple of Amenhotep III, which has sadly been lost over the years. Given the splendour of some of the other Temples it is hard to believe Amenhotep’s would have been anything less than spectacular. They do have similar statues in the Egyptian Museum in Cairo, so keep an eye out!

They are set on the West Bank of the Nile, I combined them with a trip to Medinet Habu & Ramesseum Temples. Whilst these statues are a must see, it is only going to be a short visit as there isn’t much else to see there. Also it is free to visit, do not be paying any tour operators for tickets. The statues are situated on the side of a road, they have a car park for tour buses & a couple of stalls/people trying to sell you things. There is no ticket office etc.

I have seen that some Tour companies include this as part of a package with other sites on the West Bank, just keep in mind that the Collossi are free to see. As this is only a quick stop, I haven’t done a section on useful tips, entry costs & opening times etc.
